Update Alpha 16: Bosses Update




16.1 Bugfix Changes:

  • Added some additional steps to prevent the partial file/data loading when accessing the Research Notes on the main menu without a current save file from bleeding over into a new game, causing the game to determine the player qualified for things that they didn't.
    • This was tricky to figure out and I'm still not 100% certain that it's completely fixed, but here is hoping.
  • Improved the amount of notes entries present when accessing the research notes from the main menu (it now closer matches everything you have researched + things you have found on any current run)
  • Added additional logic to prevent allies that have the Lost status effect from doing things during their turns.
  • Fixed a bug where the movement from the Lost status effect would create a desync between the room that an ally thinks they are in and the room that they are displayed in.
  • Fixed a bug where some aspects of save data were not being properly added to meta progression.
  • Fixed a bug where certain particle effects would show in rooms that were not visible.
  • Fixed a bug where Undying monsters could cause a room icon to appear representing a room that was not visible.
  • Fixed a bug where the "Good Faith Offer" event was still being offered after viewing it that run.
  • Fixed a bug where ALLY_EXPLORING_ROOM checks were not being triggered so allies were not tallying their count of rooms explored.
    • Also by extension a very minor bug where Raine (as the ally in slot 1) was getting credit for exploring the safe room of every floor, giving her a slight advantage in explored room count total. You could argue that this actually made sense in character though.
  • Fixed a bug where the background textures for floors 17 and 18 were not flagged as repeating textures and therefore were not showing up at all.
  • Allies now refresh pathfinding for their currently set behavior after using a mobility effect, being forcibly moved, or teleporting (yes these are all different things internally).
  • Made several more checks update the health bars for monsters/traps that didn't previously, including taking damage from indirect sources.
  • Set monster/trap health bars and ally combat counter circles to not be affected by map lighting effects (darkened rooms).
  • Fixed a bug where defeating a boss sexually would not count as defeating them for the purpose of task completion.
  • Added a progress bar to trap rooms that fills up to indicate when the trap is going to go off due to its rearm timer ticking down.
  • Fixed several Drider events not being present in the Research Notes.
  • Added Research Notes entry for in-chest Consumables.
  • Fixed the missing description/hint for Raine's first Relaxing event.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause all allies to use all possible sleeping times while in camp (maximum lazy).
  • Fixed a bug where Sloth would appear to activate (but not do anything) every turn if a character was set to rest while having well rested outside the safe room.
  • Changed the activation of Stockpile from ending turn in the Safe Room to being scried in the Safe Room (allowing you to build up/use a stockpile on purpose).
  • Debug: Boss monsters spawned via debug menu now properly show the room with the boss room icon.
  • Debug: Fixed the debug option for adding/completing Coraline tasks not actually completing tasks.
  • Corrected various typos.


Hi

This update expands on the Coraline tasks system from the previous update, moving on to allow you to pick out boss monsters to encounter and defeat. It also contains a whole slew of ui improvements, bug fixes, and some other stuff!

To be completely honest and transparent here, there are only two bosses in the update itself. The Drider (which was already a thing but has been reclassified and improved), and another one. I'm not COMPLETELY happy with the state of the content of that second boss, but as that was the only thing holding back the update, I thought it would be best to get things out sooner rather than fussing over it forever when the update was already behind schedule. So while she does work and can be fought and such, I will almost certainly be expanding on her content soon. That actually leads me into some more things to talk about with this update.

This is currently (barring a bugfix update if the need arises) planned to be the LAST ALPHA UPDATE

After this point, the game will be moving into beta. For those who don't know what that means, the intention I've always had has been to focus on setting up all the major gameplay systems while in alpha, then once all of that foundational work is done, move things along to beta where the focus of development will shift to creating content to bulk those systems out. I've finished all the major systems and features that I feel are truly necessary now, so we're ready to move on! Now, of course there is still going to be a lot of code work and such to be done, but hopefully you can look forward to seeing the effects of all the hard work I've done over the last year+ on setting things up come to fruition here soon!

Content:

  • 2 new Coraline tasks/Boss monsters (note that this update will remove the current Drider information from your save file, which will decrease your total KP until you find her again)
  • A couple of new camp scenes (I forget exactly how many and it also depends on if you count the boss task introduction scenes)
  • 1 new Skill
  • 2 new Curses
  • 6 new Spells
  • 2 new Trap Status Effects
  • 3 new floors (15 -> 18)

Changes:

  • Added more auto turn toggles
    • Stop on gaining Well Rested
    • Stop on losing Well Rested
    • Stop on Monster hit    
    • Stop on Trap hit    
    • Stop on finding a Witch's Den    
    • Stop on finding a Shrine    
    • Stop when Scry is off cooldown    
    • Stop on masturbation    
    • Stop on sex
  • Changed the Reference Poltergeist to classify as a boss.
    • It does not have an associated Coraline Task, and will not be removed from your save.
    • Functionally all this does differently is give it the "boss" tag in case that matters for anything.
  • Added turn indicator/slight dimming of allies when it is not their turn.
  • Added chest particle effects based on loot rarity.
  • Added recovery items as random loot in chests.
  • Added health and combat counter bars for characters in rooms (if you have researched the threats in those rooms enough to see that information).
  • Added monster/trap portrait popups when a room is first explored.
  • Added another Retain Spell slot for New Game+
  • Spells now show their names+descriptions when selected under the Retain Spell New Game+ option(s).
  • Slightly increased the speed that effect popups above the ally stat boxes display.
    • Also increased the speed rampup of displaying them when more than 5, 10, or 15 of them are queued to be displayed.
  • Removed the "minimal pixel font" option from the options menu.
  • Added ability to set your own font and font size.
  • Adjusted mouse click/scroll wheel deadzone to not encompass the entire dialogue box when the scroll bar is active.
    • Dead zone does still exist when scroll bar is visible just in case someone is playing the game without a scroll wheel.
  • Added small delay when scrolling up/down with scroll bar active before text will go backward/forward.
  • Allies can no longer trigger their compulsion to masturbate while having sex.
  • Suffering a Corruption Break during sex now removes any compulsion to masturbate.
  • Increased the range of time between automatically switching chat messages for the Witch and Coraline's shop windows.
  • Losing the Sex status effect now grants Clarity.
  • Monster events which start Sex now require the monster not already be engaged in Sex.
  • Talking to an ally about a topic which they are sick of now applies favorability loss each subsequent time, but not when the topic is first exhausted.
    • This is the opposite of how it worked previously, but seems more intuitive. (It's fine to talk somebody about a subject until they're tired of it, but if you keep pushing after that, they'll stop liking you as much)
  • Clicking the text box in the desire manipulation window will now show all text rather than having to wait for it all to appear over time.
  • Added the ability to mod in premade room sets and ally tent actions (more information on this when I update the modding docs).
  • Fixed disarming not causing exhaustion gain.
  • Fixed Trouble Attraction not actually checking the number of traps a character has triggered.
  • Fixed an issue where certain tracked numbers (statistics like number of traps defeated, etc) could sometimes fail to be stored correctly.
  • Fixed damage taken/times scried in camp not being properly tracked for the purpose of skill requirements, etc.
  • Fixed Weakness of Body/Mind/Spirit rank 2 effect not increasing associated status durations.
  • Fixed an issue where Coraline could target the wrong character when deals with multiple options selected were made.
  • Fixed the Early Dream Dungeon new game+ option not setting starting Coraline favor points to 1.
  • Fixed an issue where the compulsion to masturbate was checking that an ally did not have BOTH masturbation AND clarity rather than EITHER masturbation OR clarity when determining if the compulsion should trigger.
  • Fixed Unremarkable applying it's rank 1 penalty while at rank 0.
